Yellow Pages versus Search Engine Use

Before search engines, consumers went to the Yellow Pages and looked for a good ad. Now, more and more people go to a search box and type in a few words to find what they need. Are they going to find your business?  Is your business going to attract them from the results on the first page?

Change of Focus

The priority in people’s minds when they opened the Yellow Pages was finding a service provider – generally they chose the ad with the benefits they wanted. But with Google search query, many people type in a problem they want to solve (e.g. leaking roof), and a lot of these enquirers might be open to find a service provider, and some might want more information to do it themselves.

As a small business, the benefits of having a professional website which is optimised for search is two-fold. First, the website is always there to be an information provider for prospects and customers.

Second, the website’s words and popularity may draw in target customers who wouldn’t otherwise have bothered seeking a provider – they are looking for an answer to their yukky, difficult, or specialised problem… It turns out that they are open to a credible local provider to fix that problem for them, if the service is in their price range.

The advantages of a website over a small ad are enormous:
  • The description/first para and title state succinctly the main selling point, to attract their interest. With just one click, they then find out:
  • Your best testimonials from happy clients (on the first page we suggest)
  • What else you can do (other services)
  • What you’ve done before (projects/major sales/designs)
  • And most importantly, what you are going to do to solve their problem/s - and give outstanding service to them.
So what are you waiting for?  Start planning a great website today and reap the benefits of low-cost customer lead generation.
